CLUB HISTORY
Throughout the 70's, during the Summer, Coleford held an Annual Village Week. One of the highlights was the carnival held on the Saturday Afternoon, the local Scout Group were regular participants. In 1976, the theme chosen was 'Pirates' together with parents and family friends, a pirate galleon was created. When deciding a name for the boat, the nickname for the village aquaduct, 'The Huckyduck' was suggested and the boat was duly named.
Later that year, the Scout's entry was taken to Frome Carnival. The weather was appalling, the heavens opened and nothing far short of a monsoon prevailed. The boat of sodden cardboard was disintergrating en route, many of the boy's parents had not arrived to collect their children. Excuses were given as "We didn't watch the carnival as it was raining and we knew someone would bring him home". At this point, the frustrated adults all said "Never Again" (for the first time) and vowed that they would continue with this carnival lark for their own enjoyment. Huckyduck Carnival Club was officially formed in 1977, consisting mainly of three families. the group would hold regular meetings in each other's houses. (This was mainly so that their children could accompany them thus reducing baby sitting costs).
